Ta Dah!

Drink of the Week. As promised. I actually had this one ready for last week and then got busy with work, and depressed about Paris, so I just sat on it. Not literally sat on it, but you knew that, didn't you. I had made some margaritas and posted a photo on flickr and then one of my favorite flickr friends, hannah (haeshu) emailed me this amazing recipe, that had been passed on to her.

2 cups lime juice (about 10 -12) limes
4 cups pink grapefruit juice (trust me)
1 cup sugar
2 cups tequila
3/4 cup grand marnier (i use cointreau sometimes, too)

mix together until sugar is dissolved. it's good on the rocks or slightly blended.

She assured me that although grapefruit juice might sound strange, it is delicious. She was right!

So I took myself to the grocery store that afternoon. Bought myself some ruby red grapefruits (because i was convinced fresh squeezed would make it even better), came home and squeezed my little heart out.

Problem number one . . . 3 grapefruits yielded about 3 oz of juice, which left me about 3 1/3 cups short. I improvised. Fortunately I didn't have a "big group" coming over (just Andrew and my brother). So here's what I did (At least I think it is what I did - - I was still in too much of a haze from my Paris ails that I forgot to write it down- - I am now literally sitting here staring at a glass pyrex measuring cup trying to envision which line the lime juice went to)

3 oz Grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed if you are up for it)
4 oz Rose's sweetened lime juice (cause it's easier than waiting for sugar to dissolve, or making a simple syrup)
2 oz Tequila
1 oz Grand Marnier (or Cointreau)

Shake with ice, pour into a glass with a salted rim (use good salt, even if they say they don't like salt, it's a margarita for christ's sake) over ice. enjoy

One last thing. I can't come up with a name. I don't want anything "grey" or "ruby." I just want something catchy and fun. Any ideas?

Well, this sounds delicious, and as soon as I am allowed to drink (damn you drinking age limit!) I will definitely mix up a batch of these. I LOVE PINK GRAPEFRUIT. And I love the blog. I knew you could spring back from your Paris slump.

Maybe try to do some Paris-inspired posts, as a cathartic way to fulfill our needs and maybe alleviate some of your Paris blues?

Jen! Oh honey... I haven't been to Paris in 10 years as of this year... 10!!!! I feel your pain, except that I am missing Paris from this side of it, and not the far side. Do you read? You could try reading about Paris as a small substitute, although that might make you sadder. I would recommend Adam Gopnik's memoir, Paris To The Moon, or of course there is always Hemingway. A Moveable Feast is one of my all time favorites... the man really loved the City of Light, and it shows.

Anyway, your blog is lovely, as always. I'm not at all a fan of grapefuit, although I'm willing to give this a try. I have been drinking lots of the MinuteMaid Pomegranate Lemonade lately, and I have to say, it makes a great whiskey sour. Maybe you should try something with that. :-)

Be well dear ,

Ooooh baby. Brandon is going to be out again tonight at another catering gig, but I might have to make this for myself anyway. (In a much smaller quantity, of course. Don't worry.)

xoxo!

I agree with Brad, it sounds Texas to me too. What about the Rio Grande Margarita?

It makes me wish I were of age, and I am usually turned off by alcohol.

As for a name...Ummm...

Nothing's coming.

The Tasty Nameless Drink. I dunno.

Well, I hope you find one.
Still in a Paris slump?
Poor dear ):

I'm not generally a fan of grapefruit, but this does sound like a great combination. Seems zesty and wonderful and like it just has to make you smile. What is it about citrus that induces such happiness?

what's your take on the sugar thing. I mean it DOES take forever for it to dissolve and honey is a mess with ice so last night we were mixing mojitos with powdered sugar. it dissolves like a champ but I wasn't 100% sold. why not. i don't know. sugar is sugar right?

In South Texas and in the Valley, you can grow citrus. Grapefruit does especially well there.
Well with that said, Calhoun County is in Southern TX, how about calling your drink ‘The Calhoun’

I think you should name it "bitter sweet" in honor of missing Paris and the fact that it sounds bad but tastes good.

I like the name Citrus Sweetheart or Sweetheart Margarita. You could always go for a theme in your life, though, like Parisian Woes.

Mmm! I make a similar 'mar-sugar-ita' with powdered sugar, but I've never tried pink grapefruit juice... man, that does sound delicious! Thanks for the suggestion!

This sounds heavenly... I am trying to have an alcohol-free week (aren't I always?!) but feel this could break me... again.
